Brett Jefferson


President and Co-Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Jefferson is the Founder and President of Hildene Capital Management, an asset management firm specializing in structured finance investments. Mr. Jefferson oversees all firm investment decisions and strategies. With over 25 years of combined experience in the structured finance market and the option arbitrage industry, Mr. Jefferson has led Hildene to Barron’s Top 100 Annual Hedge Funds list for six consecutive years.

Mr. Jefferson graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and a Master of Management degree from J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Prior to founding Hildene, Mr. Jefferson was a Senior Portfolio Manager of the Marathon Structured Finance Fund, which had no down months during his tenure. Prior to Marathon, he worked in the Structured Credit Products groups at Salomon Smith Barney and Chase Securities.

Mr. Jefferson is very active in the community. He is a member of the board of directors of the Tewaaraton Foundation, which annually awards the Tewaaraton Trophy to the best college lacrosse player in the nation; as well as a board member of the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), a tour based professional lacrosse league featuring the best players in the world. Mr. Jefferson is also on the board of trustees of the Gifft Hill School in St. John, US Virgin Islands. He is the managing member of RPP Advisors LLC, a financial services firm based in the US Virgin Islands.

Dushyant Mehra


Partner and Co-Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Mehra joined Hildene in April 2016 from Pine River Capital Management where he was a Portfolio Manager in the Structured Products group focusing on investments in CLOs, Non-Agency RMBS, ABS CDOs, other esoteric ABS and Asset Based Lending transactions. Mr. Mehra was also heavily involved in building out the quantitative models and infrastructure for investments in these products while at Pine River. Prior to Pine River, Mr. Mehra was at Hudson Advisors (Lone Star Funds) for two years and was responsible for underwriting investments in Non-Agency RMBS and ABS CDOs, and also managed a small portfolio of mezzanine CLOs. Prior to that, he spent four years at Bank of America Securities where he most recently was part of the Structured Portfolios Group and was responsible for workouts and liquidations of a distressed ABS CDO portfolio. Prior to that he was part of the Structured Securities Group where he structured synthetic ABS CDO transactions. He began his career building the quantitative framework behind Bank of America’s synthetic CDO structuring platform. Mr. Mehra graduated Magna Cum Laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a BS in Computer Engineering and a Minor in Mathematics, and also holds a MS in Financial Engineering from Columbia University.

Justin Gregory, CFA


Partner and Portfolio Manager

Mr. Gregory joined Hildene in May 2018 as a Portfolio Manager from Axonic Capital LLC, where he specialized in the sourcing, structuring, trading and portfolio management for residential, commercial, asset-backed and esoteric structured products. Before Axonic, he was a Vice President at Deutsche Bank AG on the Non-Agency Residential Mortgage Trading Desk. Prior to that, he spent over two years as a Vice President at Hudson Advisors/Lone Star Funds and was responsible for trading mortgage and asset-backed loans and securities. Mr. Gregory began his career at Goldman Sachs & Co. on the mortgage desk where he traded and structured Alt-A securities. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan and is a CFA® charterholder.

John Scannell


Partner and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Scannell joined Hildene at the firm’s inception. Mr. Scannell is responsible for oversight of financial controls, systems and operations. Prior to joining Hildene, Mr. Scannell worked in the structured finance market for 13 years. His most recent position was as Vice President in the CDO structuring group at Citigroup where he provided on-desk legal, structuring, documentation, compliance and administration support for the CDO structuring business. Prior to joining Citigroup, Mr. Scannell was an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP where he represented a variety of issuers and underwriters in transactions involving collateralized debt obligations, asset-backed securities and other securities issued in publicly-registered transactions and private placements. Mr. Scannell also was a litigator for Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. Before attending law school, Mr. Scannell was financial controller for the New York division of a Fortune 500 medical services company, responsible for financial controls and operations. Mr. Scannell has a Juris Doctorate and graduated cum laude from Brooklyn Law School in 1996 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at San Diego State University in 1987.

David Hoffman


Partner, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer

Mr. Hoffman serves as general counsel and chief compliance officer for Hildene. Prior to joining Hildene in 2014, Mr. Hoffman was an associate at Herrick Feinstein LLP, where he represented asset managers and other financial institutions in a variety of matters, including private fund formation, operations and compliance. Mr. Hoffman obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the New York University School of Law in 2006 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Kenyon College in 2000. Prior to completing law school, Mr. Hoffman served with the U.S. Peace Corps in Bulgaria and as a legal assistant to the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee supporting litigation matters before the European Court of Human Rights.

Kevin Bravo-Ferrer


Partner and Head of Strategic Opportunities

Mr. Bravo-Ferrer joined Hildene in October 2016 and focuses on operations and business development. Previously, he was a Portfolio Manager at Pineapple Capital Management, a global fundamental value investment firm. In his role, Mr. Bravo-Ferrer identified and performed due diligence on both direct investments and third party managers under consideration for LP allocations, and was the lead for Investor Relations inquiries. Prior to Pineapple, he performed similar duties as a senior investment analyst at Fortress Investment Group where he recommended and performed due diligence on both direct investments in global equities, as well LP and Seed investments in managers, across geographies and asset classes. Mr. Bravo-Ferrer is a former investment banker with Credit-Suisse, where he led a team advising C-level executives and Boards on strategic actions to drive shareholder value, and was a buy-side analyst for Schroders’ US Large Cap and Alpha funds. Prior to his finance career, Mr. Bravo-Ferrer was a naval officer in the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program in Washington, D.C. He holds a BS from the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis) and an MBA from the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business.
